The Daytripper is a compact lounge, designed to reduce the volume of materials used in manufacture and transportation costs. The internal frame is made from renewable NZ plantation timber that is sourced locally, and the aluminium legs are powdercoated rather than chromed to reduce the use of heavy metals. The Daytripper frame is designed for disassembly to enable more cost effective reupholstering to prolong it's lifespan. Only waterbased, non-toxic glues have been used in manufacture, and the designer has requested that only recycled PET fabric ranges be offered by the manufacturer.

We have designed and made by hand, innovative lamps by reusing faulty printed circuit boards that converts the throwaway into elegant decorative lighting. Our aim has been to take these faulty circuit boards and design lamps to enhance a home or social environment and to prevent reusable waste from going to landfill.
The lamps exemplify our western lifestyle, which is reliant upon electronics and the need to consume and dispose. They are advertising for promotion of “industrial discards” as a useful resource in 21st Century contemporary design. Finally, they are turn of the century objects, representative of the electronic and synthetic era and a move to sustainable living.

First is the material, which is natural, renewable wood from plantation forests. Second is manufacture, which all occurs in Australia, and with the energy costs involved in making plywood far less than comparable building products. Third is the design approach.
In Your Room designs products and moulds in a way that minimises wastage from the plywood sheets. Our moulds are also made such that different products come out of the 1 mould. The 2 moulds in this Shortstop Set also produce IYR’s Bench, Tray Table, Magazine Rack and Doubleseater.
Arguably the most sustainable aspects of the Shortstop Child’s Set are quality and multifunctionalism. Challenging the need for a separate range of kids furniture, the Shortstop pieces are designed so that each piece can be used in a variety of ways and for a long time. Thus, the table can serve as a compact coffee or side table, and the stools as part of a nest, a step or foot stool or mini table.
The set components are available in a choice of 2 woods (hoop-pine or european beech) and 8 standard laminate colours - white, red, black, bright blue, blue-grey, bright pink, pastel pink and yellow.

The mushroom floor lamp was originally initiated as a study in how to reduce the environmental impact of a product. Consideration was given to the entire development process of the lamp with the end result being a very low impact, energy efficient product. Extremely minimal power consumption is used to produce the lamp with the majority of the lamp being manufactured by hand. The majority of materials and components used in the construction of the lamp are all sourced locally to reduce transportation costs and associated impact, and the mushroom floor lamp is finished with 100% non-toxic, non petro-chemical based paint with a zero FIC rating to assist in reducing demand for non-renewable fuels. The lamp utilises the latest in LED lighting technology to aid in reducing the power consumption throughout its lifespan, and at full intensity the lamp uses only 9 watts, just 7% of a standard light globe.

Siena is constructed from pre-loved, discarded books which often outlive their intended function. The high quality craftsmanship of the original books (which is something we see less and less in our mass produced society) is embraced and celebrated. Each Siena is made purely from the ‘bookblock’ of a dissembled book. No new materials or anything toxic is used in the construction of the new form and there is little to no wastage. Whilst designing Siena the possible lifecycle of the product and how it may eventually be disposed of and recycled (if it came to that) was considered.
It was intended that Siena would challenge our ‘throw-away society’, and hopefully encourage people to reassess the value of their unwanted items so hopefully they will donate or sell them for possible reuse (instead of sending to the tip). Siena offers an alternative to consumers who are demanding more environmentally sensitive products.

The Rolf stool was designed to address environmental, ergonomic, economic and storage issues. The stool, which can be used as a side table, displays the DNA like qualities of cross-laminated bamboo board, mesmerising the viewer with it’s simplicity of form and complexity of pattern. The entire stool is produced from bamboo, a renewable, highly sustainable material, six screws and a water-based finish.
The stool is ergonomically designed with its triangular seat to reduce the amount of stress on the underside of a person’s legs whilst seated, and is stackable when not in use. The stool is designed to yield 9-10 seats from a single 30mm thick 1200mm x 2400mm sheet, and is flat-packable, enabling efficient delivery and removal when required. The seat has an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio and is also available in coffee.

Celebrating the beauty of imperfection, Crackery-Crockery transforms white mass-produced porcelain tableware into individual treasures. Damaged or discarded ceramics that cannot be sold or used commercially become reborn.
Instead of hiding a crack or chip, the faults of each piece are highlighted with delicate gold luster and a floral motif that blossoms from it. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of repairing broken ceramics with a line of gold lacquer, the collection honours the fragility of the object. Through the mending process, its value is increased and a new appreciation is created for it. Every fault is unique so each piece has its own identity, resulting in a beautiful collection of one-off pieces.
